Nominations for the 2007 Philadelphia 100 are closed. Nominations for the 2008 Philadelphia 100 are being accepted
at: Wharton
SBDC
The Philadelphia 100 is a merit based program. Only the fastest
growing, privately-held companies in the Greater Philadelphia
area are designated as the Philadelphia 100. Similar to the
Inc. 500, the rankings are based on revenue growth over the
past three years:
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Three-year sales history with an increase during
the most recent fiscal year.
- Sales of more than $125,000 in the base year. The base year is the
earliest of the most recent fiscal years. For 2006, the base
year was 2004.
- Companies operating in bankruptcy at
any point during the contest period through to the time of
winner selection are not eligible.
Companies must be privately-held and headquartered in the
10 county region surrounding Philadelphia:
- Pennsylvania: Bucks,
Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia
-
New Jersey: Burligton, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer
NOMINATIONS AND APPLICATIONS
Recruiting for eligible companies begins in November and is
open through April. The nominations require contact information
for the nominated company and can easily be completed online
at this webpage. Outreach to find eligible companies includes
advertisements in the Philadelphia Business Journal, direct
e-mail to previous winners, and e-mails to professional
service firms (e.g., law firms, accounting, consultants) and associations.

The nominations are collected by the Wharton Small Business
Development Center. Nominated companies are sent an application
that requires sales data for the three previous years. In
order for an application to be considered, the CEO and the
accountant must certify the accuracy of the sales information.
VERIFICATION
The Wharton Small Business Development Center then validates
the information by reviewing the application to make sure
the company meets all the criteria. All remaining companies
are contacted to re-confirm the revenue information. Wharton
Small Business Development Center also checks the bankruptcy
records of Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware to make sure
that none of the companies are operating in bankruptcy.
When the information is validated, Wharton Small Business
Development Center calculates the growth rates and determines
the rankings. The initial Philadelphia 100 list is reviewed
by the Entrepreneurs’ Forum of Greater Philadelphia
and the Philadelphia Business Journal. Once approved by all
organizations, the list is considered final and Wharton Small
Business Development Center compares the performance of current
year's companies to the previous years.
